Tollgate House, Office building at M32 entrance in Bristol, England
Tollgate House was an office building located at the M32 entrance in Bristol, featuring 19 floors across its structure. The building occupied a key site surrounded by other commercial properties in the city center.
The building was constructed in 1975 as a modern office structure with comprehensive air-conditioning throughout. It was demolished in 2006 using careful floor-by-floor dismantling rather than explosives due to nearby properties.
The Royal Institute of British Architects president George Ferguson evaluated the architectural design of the building within the context of British civil architecture.
The site no longer exists as the original building was completely removed. Today it serves a different purpose and the area is not accessible as a historical landmark.
During the 2006 demolition, approximately 90 percent of the building materials were recycled and repurposed for new projects. This commitment to sustainability was remarkable for a dismantling project of this scale.
