Dymchurch Martello Tower, Military museum in Dymchurch, England

The Martello Tower is a round three-story building with thick brick walls and a flat roofline designed for military defense. A cannon platform sits on top from which artillery could monitor and protect the shoreline below.

The tower was built in 1805 during the Napoleonic Wars as part of a broader coastal defense system. It stood as one of many fortifications designed to protect England from French attack.

The tower displays military equipment and explains how Britain defended its coastline during the early 1800s. Visitors can see the rooms where soldiers lived and worked during their service at this fortification.

This site is open to visitors on weekends and public holidays from Easter through October. Metal staircases provide access through all levels, allowing you to explore the interior rooms.

An actual 24-pounder cannon sits on the gun platform, showing the type of artillery that once defended this coast. This piece of equipment offers a direct connection to the tower's working days as an active fortification.
