St Mary's Church, Wingham, Medieval parish church in Wingham, England

St Mary's Church is a medieval parish church in Wingham featuring a west tower topped with a recessed spire. The building incorporates Norman masonry and geometric Gothic windows distributed throughout its structure.

Archbishop John Peckham established the church around 1280 as a collegiate foundation with a provost and six canons. This priestly community continued until 1548 and held importance in local religious administration.

The church displays a collection of 14th-century misericords inside, decorated with animal carvings and motifs such as the Green Man. These carved details offer insight into medieval craftsmanship and the symbols that held meaning for worshippers at that time.

Visitors can reach the church via Canterbury Road in central Wingham with free parking available near the building. The central location makes it straightforward to walk to the site and view its exterior completely.

The south porch, added around 1400, appears to have two stories when viewed from outside but contains only one story inside. This architectural feature reflects construction techniques and possibly later modifications to the original design.
