Clearbury Ring, Archaeological site near Downton, England
The hillfort features a substantial rampart with a width of 14 meters and a height of 2 meters, surrounding an area of 3.4 hectares.
Built between the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age, from the eighth to fifth centuries BC, this univallate hillfort served as a defensive structure.
Archaeological excavations at Clearbury Ring have uncovered flint artifacts and charcoal deposits, indicating sustained human presence throughout different periods.
The site maintains a simple entrance on its northwestern side, with a 10-meter wide gap and a causeway that crosses the protective ditch.
Located at 142 meters above sea level, the fort provides views across the River Avon valley and contains traces of ancient field systems.
