Church of St Mary and St Andrew, Stoke Rochford, Medieval parish church in Stoke Rochford, England
The Church of St Mary and St Andrew is a medieval parish church blending Norman and Perpendicular architectural styles. It features a distinctive west tower, nave, chancel, and stone walls throughout, creating a unified structure that spans centuries of building techniques.
This building originated around 1050 when two separate churches dedicated to St Andrew and St Mary were combined into a single parish church. The merger marked a significant moment in the area's religious organization and development.
The interior holds memorials dedicated to the Cholmeley and Turnor families, with each lineage occupying a separate aisle within the building. This arrangement reflects the deep connection between the parish and the local landholding families who shaped the community's religious life.
This church sits approximately 5 miles south of Grantham and is straightforward to locate. Regular services are held here, including monthly communion services using the Book of Common Prayer, welcoming visitors to the local congregation.
Inside, there is a carved wooden reredos created by Mary Fraser Tytler depicting saints, along with old parish chests that remain intact. The building also holds historical memorial plaques commemorating those lost in military service from the local community.
