Church of St Peter, church in Noss Mayo, Devon, United Kingdom
Church of St Peter is a stone church building in Newton and Noss with a prominent tower rising about 70 feet (21 meters) tall. The interior features a long nave with side aisles, a chancel, and seating capacity for around 250 people.
The building was constructed between 1880 and 1882, replacing an older church that had become difficult to maintain and too small for the community. The foundation stone was laid in 1880 by Mrs. Baring, and the Bishop of Exeter consecrated it in 1882.
The church is dedicated to Saint Peter and has served as a focal point for the local community since its completion. Today, visitors come for worship, local celebrations, and moments of quiet reflection.
The church sits on a steep site and is visible from a distance, making it easy to locate in the area. Regular services take place, and visitors should check ahead for any special events or celebrations being held.
The tower contains eight bells cast in London, and four clocks on the front face tell the time for the surrounding area. The interior woodwork was crafted by skilled artisan Harry Hems from Exeter, featuring intricate carved details throughout.
