Town Hall, Municipal building in central Colchester, England
The Town Hall features a symmetrical frontage with seven bays, Doric pilasters, and a 192-foot tower adorned with allegorical figures and topped by a bronze statue.
After previous structures from 1277 and 1845, the current Edwardian Baroque building, designed by John Belcher, was completed in 1902 to serve as the city council headquarters.
The interior spaces, including the Moot Hall, Council Chamber, and Grand Jury Room, host civic ceremonies, exhibitions, community gatherings, and the annual Oyster Feast.
The Town Hall provides multiple rooms for events, with the Moot Hall accommodating 260 people, while smaller committee rooms offer spaces for meetings and private functions.
The tower clock, named Charlie after sponsor Charles Hawkins, contains five bells, including one preserved from the original medieval moot hall building.
