The Ripon Obelisk reaches eighty feet in height and stands as a central stone structure in the market square of this Northern England city.
Nicholas Hawksmoor designed this monument in 1702 under John Aislabie's patronage, while William Aislabie later restored it in 1781 to mark his sixty years in Parliament.
The monument bears inscriptions commemorating local governance and features a weathervane modeled after the traditional Ripon hornblower at its peak.
