Lady Godiva

Lady Godiva is a bronze statue showing a woman on horseback standing on a stone plinth inscribed with verses from an English poem. The artwork has a classical form and is often visited by people passing through the city center.

The statue was created by an artist in the 1940s and installed in 1949 after being planned for some time. It recalls a historical woman whose story began in medieval times and was later immortalized in English literature.

The statue shows Lady Godiva as a symbol of resistance against injustice that still inspires people in Coventry today. Her name is so connected to the city that she has become part of its identity.
