Coventry Cross, Medieval market cross in central Coventry, England.
Coventry Cross is a stone monument located near Holy Trinity Church with multiple tiers featuring statues of kings and saints set in carved niches. The structure was relocated in 2023 to a new position and now includes colored windows that tell stories from the city's past.
The original was first documented in 1300 and served as a central market marker until deterioration led to its demolition in 1771. Later it was rebuilt based on historical records and surviving pieces.
Three preserved statues from the original 1544 cross, including one of Henry VI, are now displayed at St Mary's Guildhall and Herbert Art Gallery. These figures show how important this site was to the city and its rulers.
The monument stands in the city center and is easily reached on foot with clear signage for visitors. Year-round free access allows visits at any time without restrictions.
A 3D-printed replica of a king was digitally scanned from the original medieval statue held at Herbert Art Gallery and reconstructed. This modern technique bridges history with contemporary manufacturing, connecting past craftsmanship to today's possibilities.
