Manor House, Medieval manor house and gardens in Sutton Courtenay, England

The manor house consists of three wings forming a U-shape around a stone-flagged courtyard, with five gables and Ipswich-style lattice windows.

The east wing dates from the late 11th century, where Queen Matilda gave birth to the future Empress Matilda while attended by Abbot Faricius.

The gardens, designed by Norah Lindsay in the 1920s, feature formal elements including a Persian garden, rose garden, and square pool.

The manor house holds Grade II* listed building status, while its surrounding gardens maintain Grade II listed park designation.

The property includes a beech and hornbeam alley with yew portals leading to the kitchen garden, and wild riverside areas designed by Brenda Colvin.
