Church of St Mary and St Andrew, Medieval parish church in Grantchester, England
Church of St Mary and St Andrew is a medieval parish church in Grantchester, built from clunch and fieldstone with a chancel, nave, bell tower, and south aisle from later periods. Inside, it houses a Norman baptismal font and a 17th-century pulpit that originated from Corpus Christi College chapel in Cambridge.
The chancel was built in the 14th century, with the nave and bell tower following in the 15th century. Major restoration work in the 1870s renewed the structure and ensured its survival.
The church serves as a focal point for the local community, hosting regular Sunday worship that brings neighbors together for traditional services rooted in Anglican practice. This gathering place reflects how the village maintains its spiritual life across generations.
The building is open daily for visitors to explore its interior and the surrounding churchyard area. Access is straightforward and does not depend on service times.
The pulpit was transferred from Corpus Christi College in the 17th century, showing the connection between this village and the nearby university. This relationship has shaped the church since the college became its patron in 1352.
