Buckie, St Andrew's Square, St Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Category A listed Catholic church in Buckie, Scotland.
St Peter's Roman Catholic Church is a Category A listed building on St Andrew's Square in Buckie, Scotland, with two square towers and a Gothic west front featuring pointed arch details. A four-light stained glass window crowns the entrance, and a marble altar anchors the interior.
The church was built between 1851 and 1857, during a period when Scottish Catholics were regaining the right to practise their faith more openly after years of legal restrictions. Sir William Gordon donated the land, making it possible for the local Catholic community to establish a permanent place of worship.
Inside, murals show Biblical scenes such as the Calming of the Storm and the Walking on the Water. These paintings line the walls of the prayer space and make the stories visible as visitors walk through.
The church is open for services held on weekdays and at weekends, so it is worth checking times before visiting. Visitors are welcome to look around outside of active services, but should dress and behave accordingly.
The church contains a replica of the Our Lady of Aberdeen statue, while the original has been kept in Brussels for centuries. The statue was taken out of Scotland long ago and never returned, which makes this copy a rare local link to a lost original.
