Llandinam Bridge

Llandinam Bridge is a cast iron crossing over the River Severn featuring three curved ribs that form a single segmental arch. The structure creates a graceful span connecting the village to the opposite bank with its distinctive curved design.

Thomas Penson, a county surveyor, designed this crossing in 1846 to replace an earlier structure spanning the River Severn. The project marked an important moment in local infrastructure development for the area.

The bridge marks the first public contract for David Davies, who later became a prominent industrialist in Welsh coal mining and railway development.

Weight restrictions limit vehicles crossing to under three tonnes, a limit in place since 1906. Visitors traveling by car should be aware of this limitation before attempting to cross.

The structure features X-shaped lattice panels in its spandrels with cruciform and circular cross-members throughout. This design approach appears in other Victorian iron bridges from the same period in England.
