Parish Church of St Stephen, Grade I listed church in Old Radnor, Wales.
The Parish Church of St Stephen sits on a hilltop in Old Radnor with perpendicular gothic features including a nave, chancel, and west tower. The south side includes a porch with niches where visitors enter the main worship space.
The building was reconstructed in 1401 after a fire during the Glyndwr Rising. Defensive features such as gun ports in the battlement were added during this rebuilding.
The medieval screen between the chancel and nave shows Welsh church craftsmanship from centuries past. The roof displays Tudor Rose decorations that reflect a later period of embellishment.
Access is through the south porch where Victorian statues fill the entrance niches. The church sits on higher ground, so visitors should expect a gentle walk uphill from the nearby road.
A remarkable organ case from 1500 is recognized as the oldest surviving example in Britain. An ancient carved stone baptismal font from the 8th century shows how long this site has served the community.
