Nannau, Grade II* listed mansion in Brithdir and Llanfachreth, Wales.
Nannau is a Georgian mansion with three stories and five bays, constructed from local slate stone with sandstone architectural details. The building displays classical proportions and carefully finished elements throughout its structure.
The first recorded settlement at this site dates to the late 11th century, founded by Cadwgan, son of Prince Bleddyn ap Gynfyn of Powys. The current Georgian mansion was built later, replacing the original medieval structure that once occupied this location.
The interior reveals Ionic columns in the entrance hall and decorative plasterwork throughout the rooms, speaking to Georgian craftsmanship and refined taste.
The estate sits at an elevated location and is accessed via a drive from the road connecting Llanfachreth and Dolgellau. The property is only a short distance from Llanfachreth village, making it relatively straightforward to reach.
The estate was once home to the famous Derwen Ceubren yr Ellyll oak tree, which stood until lightning destroyed it in 1813. This ancient tree held local significance and shaped the landscape for centuries before its sudden loss.
