Brims Castle, Tower house in Highland, Scotland
Brims Castle is an L-shaped stone tower house with three stories and a square stair-wing located on the coast at Brims Ness. The structure features small windows throughout and sits roughly 5 miles northwest of Thurso.
The castle was built between 1575 and 1625 and remained under Sinclair family ownership across different branches. The family eventually departed the property in the late twentieth century.
The burial ground and chapel dedicated to Saint John on the grounds reflect the religious importance these sites held for Highland nobility families. These spaces served both spiritual needs and as a visible sign of the family's standing in the region.
Access to the site is severely restricted due to the castle's deteriorated state and unsafe structural condition. It is best to view the building from a distance and respect all barriers around the property.
The interior was thoughtfully arranged with a ground floor hall linked to a vaulted basement through a private staircase. Each upper floor served as a separate bedroom, showing efficient use of the tower's vertical space.
