Little Beach, Secluded beach in East Weares, Portland, England
Little Beach sits on the eastern side of Portland and is defined by exposed Kimmeridge Clay formations along its shoreline. The water laps against natural rock structures that form the beach's main features.
During World War II, military forces installed a minefield above the beach as part of coastal defence installations. The fortifications reflected the strategic importance of this stretch of the English coast during wartime.
The beach exists within a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, recognizing its geological formations and diverse wildlife populations.
You can reach the beach via a pathway branching from the main coastal trail in the East Weares area. Watch the tide carefully as the coves can fill with water quickly.
The exposed layers of Kimmeridge Clay reveal rock formations from the Jurassic period. You can see deep geological history without digging or any special equipment.
