Principal Place, Office building in Shoreditch, England
Principal Place is an office building in Shoreditch, London, designed by Foster + Partners and rising 15 floors above street level. It has floor-to-ceiling windows on every floor and opens onto a public plaza at ground level with restaurants and seating.
The building was completed in 2016, at a time when Shoreditch was shifting from an industrial area to a hub for technology and creative businesses. From 2018, it became the headquarters of a major technology company, which changed the profile of the neighborhood further.
The ground-level plaza draws office workers and passersby who stop for lunch or a short break during the day. The mix of restaurants and open seating around it gives the space a relaxed, everyday urban feel.
The building sits a short walk from Liverpool Street Station, which is served by several train and underground lines. The ground-floor plaza is open to the public, but access to the office floors requires authorization.
The building has two roof terraces that look out over both the financial district and the rooftops of Shoreditch, offering a view that covers two very different parts of London at once. These terraces are not open to the public and remain one of the least-known features of the building.
