Principal Tower, Modern high-rise building in Shoreditch, London
Principal Tower is a mixed-use high-rise in Shoreditch, London, combining office space, residential apartments, and ground-floor retail in a single complex. The building is made up of two linked glass towers standing at the corner of Worship Street and Shoreditch High Street.
The building was designed by Foster and Partners and completed in 2017, at a time when demand for large office space in Shoreditch was growing fast. It was part of a broader wave of development that reshaped the eastern edge of the City of London in that period.
The tower sits right on the boundary between the City of London and Shoreditch, where finance meets the creative scene. Walking around it, you can notice the shift from corporate glass buildings on one side to street art and independent shops on the other.
Liverpool Street Station is just a short walk away and connects to several Tube and rail lines, making the area easy to reach from most parts of the city. The surrounding streets are best explored on foot, as much of what the neighborhood offers is concentrated within a short radius.
Although the building looks straightforwardly modern, its footprint follows the old street pattern of the neighborhood, which gives it a slightly twisted, irregular shape. This is most visible when looking at it from Shoreditch High Street, where the two towers visibly angle away from each other.
