Square and Compass, Grade II listed pub in Worth Matravers, England.
The Square and Compass is a pub in a T-shaped stone building with traditional slate roofing located in a village in Dorset. The establishment serves homemade pasties and pies along with craft beers.
The building was constructed in the 18th century as two separate cottages and was known as The Sloop in 1776. It took its current name, Square and Compass, in 1830.
The Newman family has run this place since 1907 and kept its original features, including serving hatches instead of a standard bar counter. This family-run character shapes the visitor experience even today.
The pub opens daily from noon and offers seating both indoors and outdoors. Regular music events take place here, including open mic sessions every third Wednesday of the month.
The pub houses a small museum displaying fossils and local artifacts that the Newman family has collected over many generations. This collection offers a glimpse into the natural history and heritage of the area.
