St Joseph Church, Southampton, Gothic Revival church in Southampton, England
St Joseph Church displays pointed arches, intricate stained glass windows, and detailed stonework designed by architect Augustus Pugin in the Gothic Revival style.
The church foundation was laid in March 1843, and due to financial limitations, J. G. Poole completed the construction, leading to its opening in 1845.
The church served as the pro-cathedral of Portsmouth Diocese in 1882 until the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist in Portsmouth was completed.
The building maintains its Grade II listed status since February 14, 1969, ensuring protection and preservation of its architectural elements for future generations.
Leonard Stokes renovated the structure in 1888, rebuilding the north and south walls while increasing the height and adding a seventh window.
