Syon Park, Grade I listed park and garden in London Borough of Hounslow, United Kingdom
Syon Park is a large garden estate spanning about 140 acres along the River Thames. It features around 200 rare tree species, manicured lawns, a lake with terrapins, and historic buildings dating from different periods.
The site was home to Syon Abbey from 1431 until Henry VIII ordered its closure in 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries. It was then transformed into a private estate over the following centuries.
The grounds serve as a filming location for television productions and films. Visitors often spot familiar scenes from popular dramas and fantasy shows.
The grounds are accessible through multiple entrances with well-maintained paths for walking. Spring through autumn offers the best visiting conditions when vegetation and features are fully on display.
Astronomer Thomas Harriot made the first telescopic observations of the moon from this location in 1609. His work preceded Galileo's lunar studies by several months.
