London Borough of Hounslow, Borough in West London, England
The London Borough of Hounslow is a district in West London stretching from the Thames in the south to the boundary with Hillingdon in the north. The territory includes urban streets, parks, several historic estates, and connections to the international airport nearby.
The borough formed in 1965 when several older towns and districts merged under a reorganization of local government. Before that reform these communities had existed for centuries, but their official union created a shared structure for the first time.
The name comes from the medieval village that once stood on the main road to Bath and the West Country. Today you see residential streets shaped by waves of settlement, from Georgian terraces near the river to postwar estates further inland.
You can reach the area through several Underground stations on the Piccadilly line that run west from central London. Many streets are flat and walkable, while buses and trains link the main centers within the district.
Near the edge of the district lies Hounslow Heath, an open grassland that once served as a military training ground and an early aviation field. Today locals walk across the heath and watch for wildlife, while the open landscape recalls its former role in army drills and pioneer flights.
