Statue of Henry Irving, Bronze statue near National Portrait Gallery, London, England
The bronze figure of Henry Irving stands on a Portland limestone pedestal, displaying the actor in a formal standing position at Charing Cross Road.
The statue, created by sculptor Thomas Brock and unveiled in December 1910, was funded through contributions from British theatre professionals and actors.
The monument commemorates Sir Henry Irving, who achieved recognition as the first actor in England to receive a knighthood for his stage performances.
The statue maintains its Grade II listed status, ensuring protection and regular maintenance under English heritage preservation regulations and guidelines.
Every February 6th, the Irving Society conducts a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue to mark the birth date of the distinguished actor.
