Broseley Pipeworks

Broseley Pipeworks, Industrial archaeology museum in Broseley, England.

Broseley Pipeworks is a clay pipe manufacturing factory in England with original machinery and workshops preserved from the site's operation. The building shows the complete production process from raw materials to finished pipes, with kilns, forming rooms, and storage areas still in place.

The factory was founded in the late 1700s and grew into one of Britain's leading clay pipe manufacturers, shipping products worldwide. Production stopped in the 1950s and the building was later listed as a protected monument.

The workshops reveal how workers shaped and decorated clay pipes by hand each day, a craft passed down through generations of families. You can see where specialized molds were created for different pipe designs that were wanted around the world.

The site is part of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums complex and offers guided tours at peak times, with wheelchair-accessible routes available. Visitors should wear good shoes, as exploring the factory involves navigating tight passages and different levels.

The building has barely changed since the 1950s, offering a rare look at how a Victorian factory actually looked and worked. The tools and molds still sit at the same workbenches where craftspeople left them more than 70 years ago.
