Carlton Tavern, Historic pub in Maida Vale, London, England
Carlton Tavern is a pub on Carlton Vale in the Maida Vale area of London, within the Borough of Brent. The two-story brick structure has a tiled ceramic façade and occupies a corner site facing the street.
Charrington Brewery commissioned the building in 1921 as part of suburban pub expansion. After unlawful demolition in 2015, Westminster City Council ordered a brick-by-brick reconstruction, which was completed.
The name recalls Carlton House in Westminster and reflects the interwar architecture of London's suburban expansion. Visitors today see ceramic tiles on the front elevation and a dark wood bar counter inside, where regulars and neighbors gather for conversation.
The premises stand at 33 Carlton Vale near the junction with Kilburn Lane. Ground-floor rooms are accessible for wheelchair users, and visiting is possible daily from midday until late evening.
The case prompted national press coverage and tightened government protections for local pubs. Every brick and tile was cataloged and reinstalled in the same position during reconstruction.
