Glandyfi Castle, Gothic mansion in Ysgubor-y-coed, Wales.
Glandyfi Castle is a Gothic country house in Ysgubor-y-coed with crenellations, a two-story central block, and a three-story tower covered in slate. The building contains ten bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and multiple reception rooms with oak-paneled walls spread across 31 acres of surrounding land.
George Jeffreys, High Sheriff of Cardiganshire, commissioned construction in 1810 after his family acquired the estate in 1792. The building came about during a period of growing prominence for the family in this part of South Wales.
The 1820 wedding of novelist Thomas Love Peacock here linked the estate to literary circles of the period. Such country houses served as gathering places for people from cultural and intellectual worlds.
The property includes both the main house and extensive grounds that can be explored. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear since the estate combines wooded areas and open spaces.
This castle is the only registered example of a crenellated country house design in Ceredigion County. Its unusual architectural style makes it a distinctive feature of the local building landscape.
