St Thomas Church, Winchester, Gothic Revival church in Winchester, England.
St Thomas Church is a Gothic Revival church in Winchester on Southgate Street that was completed in 1857 with a distinctive steeple. The Grade II listed building has since been converted into nine residential flats while preserving its historic architectural character.
The building replaced an earlier church dedicated to St Petroc that fell into disrepair in the 14th century following the Black Death. This rebuilt structure emerged during a period when Winchester was restoring its religious facilities.
The building served a combined parish of 2,500 people from St Thomas and St Clement before transforming into the Hampshire Record Office in the late 20th century.
Access to the interior is limited since the building now contains residential units. From the street visitors can still view the exterior architecture and distinctive steeple from Southgate Street.
The building once housed a pipe organ dating from 1756 that was later moved to another church. This historic organ now serves in St Deny's Church in Southampton.
