Diamond Bridge, Road bridge in Aberdeen, United Kingdom
The Diamond Bridge spans the River Don, connecting Fairview Street in Danestone to Gordon's Mills Road in Tillydrone with a steel structure. It features two traffic lanes in each direction and pedestrian paths with a dedicated cycling section along both sides.
Work started in November 2014 and finished in June 2016 following an investment of about 22 million pounds. The construction aimed to improve traffic flow across the city by creating a new river crossing.
Local school children had a say in naming the bridge through a community competition before it opened. This involvement connected the structure to the neighborhood from its very beginning.
The bridge is easy to cross on foot or by bike thanks to its wide paths on both sides and clear markings for different road users. It is busiest during rush hours, so walking or cycling is most pleasant at quieter times.
The bridge serves as the third river crossing in Aberdeen and helps reduce traffic jams at the older passages. This makes it an important addition to the city's road network that shapes how people move through it.
