Liberal Jewish Synagogue, Greek Revival synagogue in St John's Wood, London, England
The Liberal Jewish Synagogue is a place of worship built in Greek Revival style in St John's Wood. Its entrance features six Ionic columns of Portland stone, while the modern interior includes Jerusalem stone and oak furnishings.
The synagogue was founded in 1911 and suffered damage during the 1940 air raids. Reconstruction led to the completion of a new sanctuary in 1991.
The synagogue welcomes men and women to pray together in the same space, which reflects the approach of Liberal Judaism in Britain. Visitors notice this openness right away in how the prayer hall is arranged.
