Joseph Parry's Cottage, Historic house museum in Park, Wales
Joseph Parry's Cottage is a two-story house with a slate roof, small pane windows, and pale stone quoins made from Brecon Beacons materials. The building displays traditional construction methods typical of Welsh worker housing from the early 1800s.
The cottage was built in the 1820s to house skilled workers from the nearby Cyfarthfa Ironworks. The Welsh composer Joseph Parry was born here in 1841 and went on to create music that became part of Welsh tradition.
The house displays photographs and documents related to Joseph Parry's work and the song Myfanwy, showing visitors how this Welsh composer lived and created his music. The objects on display help people understand the connection between his home and his musical career.
Visits are by appointment only, typically arranged through Cyfarthfa Castle Museum where staff can coordinate your visit time. It is best to contact the museum in advance to confirm availability and check what to expect when you arrive.
The cottage came close to demolition during the 1970s before restoration work saved it from disappearing. The repairs completed between 1976 and 1977 brought the building back to how it looked historically.
