Merthyr Synagogue, Grade II listed synagogue in Thomastown, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales.
The four-story stone building features Gothic Revival architecture with hexagonal turrets, pointed roofs, and a high gable crowned with stone finials.
The Merthyr Tydfil Hebrew Congregation established this synagogue in 1877, replacing their original 1855 building due to the growing Jewish population.
The synagogue served as the center of Jewish life in Wales until the 1980s, reflecting the presence of Jewish families in the industrial development of the region.
Located at the junction of Church Street and Bryntirion Road, the building stands at an elevation of 196.5 meters within walking distance from the town center.
The building incorporates a Welsh dragon on its gable, making it potentially the only synagogue in the world with this national symbol.
