London and North Western Railway War Memorial, War memorial at Euston Station, London Borough of Camden, England.
The London and North Western Railway War Memorial is a 13-meter-tall obelisk made from Portland limestone, standing outside Euston Station. Bronze wreaths and stone crosses in relief adorn its base.
The memorial was unveiled in 1921 to honor 3,000 railway employees who died in the First World War. Field Marshal Douglas Haig presided over the ceremony, attended by 8,000 people.
Four bronze figures at the base depict soldiers from different service branches: an artilleryman, infantryman, sailor, and airman of the First World War. These statues remind visitors of the railway workers who left their jobs to fight.
The Grade II* listed obelisk stands at Euston Square, directly beside one of London's main railway stations, and is easily accessible to visitors walking through the area. The location is open and visible from multiple angles near the station entrance.
The memorial displays the names of railway employees who earned the Victoria Cross during the First World War, Britain's highest military decoration for valor. These names represent extraordinary courage among those who worked on the railways.
