London and North Western Railway War Memorial, War memorial at Euston Station, London Borough of Camden, England.
The London and North Western Railway War Memorial is a 13-meter-tall (43 ft) obelisk made from Portland limestone, standing outside Euston Station in London. Its base is decorated with four bronze figures, bronze wreaths, and stone crosses carved in relief.
The memorial was unveiled in 1921 to honor the employees of the London and North Western Railway who died in the First World War. Field Marshal Douglas Haig presided over the ceremony.
Four bronze figures at the base show soldiers from different service branches: an artilleryman, an infantryman, a sailor, and an airman from the First World War. They remind visitors that the men being honored had left railway jobs to go and fight.
The memorial stands just outside the main entrance of Euston Station and is easy to spot as you approach the building. The surrounding area is open to everyone and no entry is required to see it up close.
The names of railway workers who were awarded the Victoria Cross during the First World War are carved on the memorial alongside those of the fallen. This makes it one of the few memorials that records both those who died and those who earned Britain's highest military honor for courage.
