Ripaults Factory, Art Deco industrial building in London Borough of Enfield, England.
Ripaults Factory is an Art Deco industrial building located on Southbury Road in the London Borough of Enfield. The structure displays a symmetrical composition with a two-storey central block and single-storey wings projecting to either side, creating a balanced and functional design.
Architect A.H. Durnford designed this manufacturing facility in the 1930s for Ripaults, a company producing automotive electrical cables and components. The building reflects the importance of the electrical engineering industry during this industrial era.
The building's name comes from Ripaults, the electrical components manufacturer that once operated here and shaped the local industrial landscape. Today the street-facing elevation remains a recognizable reminder of the factory's original purpose and the area's manufacturing past.
The building stands along Southbury Road, where it is easily visible from street level. Visitors can view the preserved front elevation and observe the original architectural details from the pavement.
Following a public inquiry by the C20 Society, developers preserved the original facade while modernizing the rear section of the building. This compromise allowed the visible architecture to be retained while updating the structure for contemporary use.
