The Royal Marine Depot is a former military complex in Deal with multiple barracks buildings spread across the area between Lower Walmer and South Deal. Today the site holds residential developments while some historic structures including East, North, and South Barracks remain partially preserved.
The facility was founded in 1861 as Hospital Barracks and expanded in 1869 when it took over additional barracks from the Army. This marked the start of its role as a dedicated training ground for the Royal Marines.
The Clock Tower entrance displays inscriptions carved by Royal Marine recruits documenting major wars and military campaigns they served in. These markings connect the place to the personal stories of soldiers who trained here.
