Leyswood, Grade II listed château in Withyham, England

Leyswood is a mansion in Withyham featuring mock battlements, towers, half-timbered upper sections, and tall chimneys arranged around a central courtyard. The building displays a mix of architectural styles that reference Tudor design while being constructed as a new work in the 19th century.

Architect Richard Norman Shaw completed Leyswood in 1868, blending Victorian ideas with historical references in a new structure. The mansion later became important in architectural history as it was documented in significant publications.

The mansion received Grade II listing status in 1973, marking its inclusion in the National Heritage List for England as a structure of architectural importance.

Access to the site requires planning ahead, as it is a private residence with limited visiting opportunities. Visitors should check in advance whether and when the property can be viewed.

The original architect's drawings were captured in a 1904 publication about English houses and preserved for future generations. This documentation later allowed historians to understand the initial design concepts even after the building underwent later changes.
