Church of Our Lady and St Thomas of Canterbury, Roman Catholic church in Harrow-on-the-Hill, United Kingdom
The Church of Our Lady and St Thomas of Canterbury is a Roman Catholic church in Harrow-on-the-Hill constructed with roughcast brick walls, stone dressings, and a tile roof at 22 Roxborough Park. The building displays a vaulted interior and was completed according to architectural plans from 1894.
A Catholic mission was established in the area in 1873, and the community grew with the arrival of the Metropolitan Line in 1880. Architect Arthur Young designed the building, which later became a Grade II listed structure.
The church interior contains stained glass windows by Patrick Nuttgens, including depictions of The Assumption with Saint Hugh of Lincoln and Saint John the Evangelist. These artworks shape the interior experience and tell stories through colored glass.
The site hosts regular services for the Catholic community and is easily accessible via the nearby station. The building is maintained under heritage protection, allowing visitors to observe historical features and architectural details clearly.
The building contains an octagonal baptistery and a short turret with battlements featuring distinctive chequerboard patterns that set it apart. These architectural elements create a visual character that visitors often overlook.
