Royal Clarence Hotel, Grade II listed hotel in Cathedral Yard, Exeter, England
The Royal Clarence Hotel stands at Cathedral Yard with a reconstructed Georgian facade following the 2016 fire that affected the structure.
Established in 1768 as a lodging house by William Mackworth Praed, the building received its royal designation in 1827 after a visit from Adelaide, Duchess of Clarence.
The property incorporates elements of medieval architecture, including a 15th-century timber-framed wall that represents early English building techniques.
The structure undergoes transformation into 23 residential apartments with a restaurant and bar spaces planned for the ground floor level.
The establishment holds recognition as England's first property to use the term hotel, marking a significant point in British hospitality history.
