Farnworth Town Hall, Grade II listed town hall in Farnworth, Greater Manchester.
Farnworth Town Hall is a municipal building on Market Street with red brick walls and sandstone details. The structure has a symmetrical nine-bay frontage, a central cupola, and a recessed porch with Ionic columns supporting a semi-circular roof.
The building was completed in 1909 by architects Bradshaw Gass & Hope and replaced an earlier local board office on Darley Street. This move happened because the area's population had grown significantly.
Inside you can see stained glass windows showing the local Coat of Arms and a grand staircase with carved stone railings. These details were chosen to show the building's importance to the community.
The building underwent major renovation in 2013 and now serves as workspace for various departments of Bolton Council. Keep in mind this is an active government office, so public access may be limited or require advance arrangements.
The entrance features three bays with a projecting pediment over a semi-circular porch held up by Ionic columns. This classical design choice was a way to express the dignity and authority of local government through architecture.
