Church of Our Lady of Dolours, Roman Catholic church in Chelsea, England
Church of Our Lady of Dolours is a Roman Catholic church on Fulham Road designed by J. A. Hansom in the Gothic Revival style in 1873. A striking colonnaded passage entrance, added in 1894, creates a distinctive architectural feature at the front.
Two Italian priests from Florence, Fr Philip Bosio and Fr Augustine Morini, founded the parish in 1864 to serve Catholics in London. The church building itself came shortly after, reflecting the community's growth and establishment in the area.
Services take place in English, Spanish, Tagalog, Yoruba, Italian, and French, reflecting the diverse communities that gather here. Walking through the church reveals how it serves as a spiritual home for people from many backgrounds.
The church is well-served by public transport, with South Kensington, Earl's Court, and Fulham Broadway stations providing convenient access. Multiple bus routes run nearby, making it easy to reach from different parts of the city.
The colonnaded passage at the entrance was added as late as 1894, making it a later addition that many visitors miss. This delayed feature shows how the building continued to evolve long after its initial completion.
