Lodge To Baynards Park, Grade II listed gatehouse in Ewhurst, England

Lodge to Baynards Park is a single-story gatehouse with Roman cement render, steep tiled roofs, and decorative friezes showing grapes and foliage beneath the eaves. The building features a cruciform layout with gabled dormers and a four-centered arch above the main entrance door.

The building was constructed between 1850 and 1860 as an entrance structure to Baynards Park, marking the boundary of the estate. It was built during a period when such structures typically defined the formal approach to large English properties.

The building displays animal motifs in heraldic forms on its walls, reflecting Victorian decorative traditions of the period. These ornamental details give the structure its distinctive visual character and were common in estate gatehouses of that era.

The building sits on Horsham Road and is easily visible from the main route through the area. It is a private structure and can only be viewed from outside, so plan your visit to walk past and observe its exterior details.

The building displays an unusual architectural feature with triple diagonal chimneys positioned where two ranges of the structure meet, sitting on a ridge plinth. This distinctive arrangement of chimney stacks is a rare detail that demonstrates the level of craftsmanship in Victorian construction.
