Moniteau County is an administrative region in central Missouri containing several towns including California, Clarksburg, Tipton, and Jamestown. The county covers a rural area with government services and local communities spread throughout.
The county was established in 1845 from portions of Cole and Morgan Counties. Its name derives from Moniteau Creek, which comes from the Algonquian word Manitou.
