Sacred Grove

The Sacred Grove is a religious site featuring a network of walking paths through tall forest trees located in western New York near Ontario County. The maintained dirt paths wind through the woodland, allowing visitors to experience the natural setting at their own pace.

The woodland became central to Latter Day Saint history in 1820 when Joseph Smith reported his first divine vision there. This spiritual experience established the site as foundational to the movement and its followers.

The site draws members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who visit to connect with their spiritual roots and heritage. For believers, the woodland holds profound personal and religious meaning.

The site is accessible throughout the year with marked trails leading through the woodland. Information panels are positioned along the paths to explain the history and significance of the location.

Six original trees from the 1800s, called Witness Trees, still stand within the forest today. These ancient trees were present during Joseph Smith's time and create a direct physical link to that early era.
