Fontenelle Park, Public park in North Omaha, United States.
Fontenelle Park is a 108-acre green space in North Omaha with a lagoon, playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, and football fields spread throughout. Walking paths connect different sections and allow visitors to explore the various recreational areas at their own pace.
The land was acquired in 1893 as part of a comprehensive parks and boulevards plan for Omaha, but organized development began after 1910. This delayed start made it a later addition to the original urban vision for the city.
The park serves as a gathering space where local residents come together for recreation and community events throughout the year. Various groups use the grounds for sports leagues, picnics, and neighborhood activities that reflect the life of North Omaha.
A pavilion on the grounds includes a meeting room that can accommodate about 70 people indoors, with space for 50 additional visitors on the porch. This flexible setup works well for groups planning gatherings or community events.
In 1939, the American Legion World Series baseball tournament took place here, with Creighton Prep competing against a team from Berwyn, Illinois. This tournament marked a significant moment in local sports history that many visitors may not know about.
