Glen Echo Country Club, Private golf course in Normandy, Missouri, US
Glen Echo Country Club is an 18-hole golf course with Zoysia grass fairways and bent grass greens laid across rolling terrain. The facility features a driving range with separate tees for short and long practice, plus dedicated areas for chipping and bunker work.
The course was completed in 1901 by Scottish designer James Foulis and was the first 18-hole golf facility west of the Mississippi River. This early establishment marks an important milestone in American golf history.
Members gather regularly for tournaments and social events throughout the year, creating a strong community within the club. The place serves as a meeting point where golfers share their passion for the sport and connect with one another.
Visitors should prepare for the rolling layout that can be challenging for both beginner and experienced golfers alike. It is wise to allow ample time to play and become familiar with the course's terrain before starting.
The course hosted the golf competition at the 1904 Summer Olympics, making it the first location in the United States to hold an Olympic golf tournament. This historic event made it a significant venue in international sports history.
