George W. Frank House

The George W. Frank House is a mansion in Kearney built from Colorado red sandstone with thick stone walls throughout its structure. The building spans three floors and a basement in its substantial footprint.

Built in 1889, the house was among the first buildings west of the Missouri River to have electrical wiring from the start of construction. This early installation shows how advanced the design was for its time.

The mansion displays Richardsonian Romanesque design with English Golden Oak woodwork created by carpenter John Peter Lindbeck throughout its rooms. These crafted details shape how the space feels and show the skill invested in every part of the building.

The University of Nebraska at Kearney maintains the property and opens it to visitors as a museum. Plan to spend time exploring the rooms and construction details at a comfortable pace.

The house contains a stained glass window roughly 5 feet wide (1.5 m) and 9 feet tall (2.7 m) whose origin remains unknown. Researchers continue to investigate where this unusual piece came from and its purpose.
