Founded in 1966 by businessman Donald S. Gilmore, the museum started with his personal collection and expanded to become North America's largest automobile museum.
The collection includes vehicles from the 1890s through modern classics, documenting the evolution of American automotive manufacturing and design through different periods.
The museum operates daily throughout the year at 6865 Hickory Road, offering guided tours, a 1941 diner, and dedicated parking areas for visitors.
Seven independent partner museums share the campus, including specialized collections for Lincoln, Cadillac, Pierce-Arrow, and Franklin automobiles.
