Griffis Sculpture Park, Outdoor art museum in Cattaraugus County, United States.
Griffis Sculpture Park is an outdoor art museum spread across 450 acres of fields and forest with approximately 250 large metal and stone sculptures. The works are organized into twelve thematic groups connected by a network of walking paths throughout the property.
The park was founded in 1966 by Larry Griffis Jr., making it the first sculpture park of its kind in the United States. His vision came after visiting Hadrian's Villa in Italy, where he imagined bringing monumental art into a natural landscape.
The sculptures come from artists working internationally, and their pieces reflect how people see and interpret the natural world through art. Walking through, you notice how these works dialogue with the surrounding forest and fields.
The park is open May through October with entry fees paid through digital systems at multiple gates. Wear comfortable walking shoes as the trails cross uneven terrain, and bring water and sun protection since shade is limited in the open field areas.
The collection includes oversized animal sculptures and fantasy structures alongside life-size human figures scattered throughout the grounds. Many visitors are surprised to learn that 10 miles of interconnected trails allow them to explore all twelve thematic groupings at their own pace without prescribed routes.
