Hawkins Hall, University building in Plattsburgh, New York, US
Hawkins Hall is a university building on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus featuring a two-story stone structure with towers in Late Gothic Revival style. The building houses several academic programs, the college honors program, and dining facilities for students and staff.
State architect William E. Haugaard designed this building in 1932 following a fire that destroyed the previous structure in 1929. This construction was part of the campus recovery after that major loss.
The hall contains the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, which serves as a central gathering space for lectures and campus events throughout the academic year. This venue plays an important role in bringing together the university community.
The building is located on the north side of the campus and is easily accessible for visitors and students. The interior spaces are well organized with academic areas and dining facilities available during regular campus hours.
The building underwent major renovations in the 1990s with both exterior and interior work completed six months ahead of schedule. This rapid completion demonstrated the project's efficiency despite the scope of the updates needed.
